Four persons, including a nine-year-old boy, were killed and two devotees sustained injuries after a tractor ran over them during a Ganesh Nimajjanam celebration at Thoorputalla village in Narsapuram mandal of West Godavari district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Kadiyam Dinesh (9), Guruju Murali (40), Tirumala Narasimha Murthy (36) and Evana Suryanarayana (50), all natives of Thoorputhalla. All the victims are from a single family, said Superintendent of Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi.

The injured — K. Prasad and B. Pavan Kumar — were admitted to a hospital, and their condition was stated to be stable, said Narsapuram Deputy Superintendent of Police G. Sriveda.

West Godavari District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani visited the Narsapuram Government Hospital and inquired about the incident. She conveyed her condolences to the bereaved family members.

“The incident occurred when a minor drove the tractor after the driver, E. Raju, went to drink water,” Ms. Sriveda told The Hindu. A case has been registered.
