Several women leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday (September 2, 2025) criticised the Opposition for the abusive language recently used against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother during their “Voter Adhikar Yatra” in Bihar.

Senior BJP leader and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the indecent language used against the Prime Minister’s mother was an insult not just to her, but to every mother in India. The pain felt by Mr. Modi was also being perceived by the people of Bihar and the entire country, she said, demanding an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav.

Ever since Mr. Modi’s days as Gujarat Chief Minister, the Congress and the Gandhi family spread hate against him, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, and the country would never forgive the insult to his mother.

Former Union Minister Smriti Irani, Union Minister Raksha Khadse, and Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Divya Kumari also targeted the Congress, RJD, and their allies.

BJP MP from Odisha, Aparajita Sarangi, said the Congress and its allies could not digest the fact that “the son of a poor mother rose to become Prime Minister through sheer hard work and dedication”. Bansuri Swaraj, MP, accused Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Yadav of crossing all limits of political decency.
