A 26-year-old man, allegedly in an inebriated state, crashed his car into a series of vehicles and was thrashed by agitated public before he was handed over to the police.
The accused, identified as Sachin, from Kalaburagi, working in a private firm, had borrowed the car from his friend and allegedly drove after consuming alcohol in Attur Layout on Tuesday.
He lost control and knocked down a moped rider. The rider sustained multiple fractures and escaped narrowly from being run over. In panic, Sachin allegedly accelerated further in a bid to escape and crashed into few more vehicles before coming to a halt.
The angry public dragged him out, thrashed him, and tied him to a pole. The Yelahanka traffic police later took him into custody.
He was subjected to medical examination and was found to be under the influence of alcohol. The accused was booked for offences, including drunk driving, rash and negligent driving and endangering the lives of others.
