The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday organised a ‘garbage photo exhibition’, alleging that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s month-long cleanliness campaign, now extended till October 2, is only a “photo-op exercise”.
Calling the charge misleading, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said more than 10,000 metric tonnes of waste have already been cleared under the drive.
The exhibition, led by the Leader of the Opposition in the MCD House, Ankush Narang, displayed photographs of garbage heaps allegedly submitted by residents from across Delhi.
“Delhi is buried under garbage while BJP leaders are busy sweeping clean streets for cameras. If the BJP truly wants to free Delhi from waste, it must act on the ground and hold officials accountable,” Mr. Narang said.
However, the Mayor said AAP’s claims were an attempt to “deflect attention from its years of misgovernance in MCD.” He stressed that the ‘Freedom from Garbage’ campaign, launched on August 1 and extended till October 2, is among the largest civic sanitation drives nationwide.
“Anyone walking on the ground can see improvements. AAP’s garbage exhibition only exposes their hypocrisy,” he added.
