Over 5,000 cases settled in second round of Lok Adalat in Dakshina Kannada

Dakshina Kannada Principal District and Sessions Judge Basavaraj called upon litigants to come forward and settle their civil and criminal cases during the third round of the national Lok Adalat to be held on September 13.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Basavaraj said 36 Benches, comprising judicial officers and advocates, will conduct proceedings in Mangaluru, Bantwal, Belthangady, Puttur, and Moodbidri courts to settle disputes.

People can pay traffic fines, which is prescribed by police on e-challans, in the court by September 12, and avail themselves of the 50% concession granted by the State government for clearing the overall outstanding fine.

In the second round of the national Lok Adalat, 5,748 cases were settled and the total settlement amount was ₹62.65 crore. He said 8,550 pre-litigation cases and traffic offence cases were also settled and it amounted to ₹98.43 crore, he said.

Mr. Basavaraj said cases were also being settled in the ongoing special mediation campaign being held between July 1 and October 7. As many as 50 advocates were part of the mediation proceedings. So far, of the 802 cases referred for mediation, 91 were closed, he said.
