Inspector General of Police A. Ravi Krishna, head of the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE), on Wednesday (September 3) said every individual in the State should play an active role in the drive against drugs.

Addressing an awareness meeting on the drug menace, organised at KL Deemed to be University, as part of the State government’s “Drugs Vaddu Bro” (Say No to Drugs) campaign, he emphasised the need to focus on prevention of crimes rather than registering cases after they occur. He said students would be made active part of the government’s fight against drugs.

Speaking about the significant role of mothers in guiding their children in the right path, Mr. Ravi Krishna said: “Every mother is a brand ambassador of EAGLE, playing a vital role in our mission to make Andhra Pradesh drug-free.”

Referring to the EAGLE’s toll free number ‘1972’, he urged students to inform the authorities if they come across any instance of any person falling prey to drugs. He said they could even send a WhatsApp message to the department number ‘8977781972’ for any drug-related information.

Guntur District Additional SP A.T.V. Ravi Kumar said students must spread awareness about the ill effects of drug use and spread the message to others. He also cautioned students aspiring to go abroad to stay away from drugs. Those selling or consuming ganja would face punishments under specific sections of law, he warned.

K.L. University vice-chancellor G.P.S. Varma, pro-vice chancellors A.V.S. Prasad, N. Venkat Ram and K. Rajashekar Rao, registrar K. Subba Rao, dean of student welfare K.R.S. Prasad, associate dean Sridhar and women development cell convener K. Ruth Ramya, among others attended the session.
