Many institutions in delta districts excel in NIRF 2025; NIT-Tiruchi retains 9th position, IIM-Tiruchi moves up

The National Institute of Technology–Tiruchi (NIT-T) has retained the ninth position among the top 100 engineering institutions in the country under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India 2025 of the Union Ministry of Education released on Thursday.

The NIT-T stood 9th in 2024 and 2023 and 8th in 2022. It could only retain the ninth position despite a marginal increase in the score from last year’s 66.88 to 68.14 this year. However, the institute moved up a rank to the 30th position this year in the overall ranking of institutions in the country with a score of 60.05.

“It is also 10-in-a-row for NIT-T as the number one institute among the country’s 31 NITs. The Departments of Architecture and Management have been creditably ranked 9th and 57th, respectively. The hard work and unstinting efforts of the faculty, students, alumni and staff have helped the Institute continue its glorious run at the national level,” said G. Aghila, Director, NIT-T.

IIM-Tiruchi’s record

The Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchi, climbed up to the 16th spot, from last year’s 27th, among the top 100 management institutions in the country while the Bharathidasan Institute of Management dropped two ranks to secure the 96th position.

Despite a rise in its score to 58.06 from last year’s 56.81, SASTRA, a deemed university in Thanjavur, fell behind by a rank to stand 29th among the top 100 universities in the country while Bharathidasan University retained its 36th rank this year. The Central University of Tamil Nadu, Tiruvarur, climbed up to the 83rd position from last year’s 99.

SASTRA ranked 40

SASTRA secured the 40th rank among engineering institutions. It has been placed 51 in the overall ranking while the Bharathidasan University (BDU) was ranked 61. SASTRA moved up three spots to stand 11th among the top 40 law institutions this year.

St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchi retained the 25th position among the colleges. The Government Arts College, Kumbakonam, and Rajah Serfoji Government College, Thanjavur, featured among the top 100 colleges by securing the 71st and 79th positions, respectively. In 2024, the Government Arts College, Kumbakonam had stood 96 while the Rajah Serfoji had broken into the top 100 this year.

Other colleges from Tiruchi and central districts that featured in the top 100 colleges list this year included Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts and Science for Women, Perambalur (40), Bishop Heber College (46), Holy Cross College (52) and Jamal Mohamed College (84).

The National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, Thanjavur, was ranked 13th among the top 40 institutions in Agriculture and Allied Sectors.
