Minister of Health Satya Kumar Yadav on Thursday (September 04, 2025) directed the officials to conduct tests related to functioning of kidneys, sugar and blood pressure on all the residents of Thurakapalem village in Guntur Rural mandal.

The Minister reviewed the situation in the village with special chief secretary (health and medical) M.T. Krishna Babu, Commissioner (health and family welfare) Veerapandian and Director of Medical Education (DME) G. Raghunandan.

As blood samples of all the villagers have been collected already by special teams, the Minister asked officials to take action accordingly. The samples were sent to the lab at the Government Medical College in Guntur.

In view of the Thurakapalem deaths, the medical and health department should make changes in its surveillance mechanism, he said. Officials explained that there was a delay in assessing the situation in Thurakapalem village as there is no proper mechanism in the existing system where the medical staff at the ground level would get information about all the deaths and analyse the reason for the same.

Mr. Raghunandan explained that 10 each deaths took place in July and August months and three in September and the results of blood samples collected are yet to come. However, he said the situation is under control in the village.
