Former State BJP president K. Annamalai on Thursday presented the 15th Dr. Mrs. YGP Educationist Award to Bharatanatyam exponent and Padma Vibhushan awardee Padma Subrahmanyam.

He praised Ms. Subrahmanyam for achieving the rare honour of getting three Padma awards — Padma Shree, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.

Padma Subrahmanyam, in her acceptance speech, said Mrs. YGP was like a mother to her as the two families had remained close for nearly nine decades.

She said though she had received more than 170 awards, this one was special as it had been instituted in honour of the great educationist.

D. Devendran, Governor of Rotary District 3233, and Pravin Tellakula, president of Rotary Club of Madras T. Nagar, also spoke on the occasion.

After the distribution of Rotary Club of Madras T. Nagar awards, he told presspersons that he had requested AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran to reconsider his decision to exit the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Though there was confusion in the NDA, the common goal of the alliance was to send the DMK government home. Home Minister Amit Shah and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami were working together towards achieving this goal.

On whether he was dissatisfied with the Central leadership of the BJP, Mr. Annamalai said he had skipped the meeting of BJP leaders from Tamil Nadu with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi recently due to some work and that he had informed the Central leadership of this.
