Two persons were arrested by Arcot Taluk police in Ranipet on Thursday for stealing a two-wheeler, mobile phone and laptop from a software professional a few days ago.
Police said the arrested persons were identified as N. Dinesh Kumar, 28, and R. Karthi, 24. They are residents of Arcot town. Initial inquiry revealed that the victim S. Vivekanandan, 52, an IT professional in Chennai, visited Arcot, his native town, on August 30 by a bus. As he was going to home from the bus terminus in Arcot on his two-wheeler, Vivekandanan was stopped by Karthi who requested him for a drop at Uppu Pettai village.
Police said that after some distance, Karthi asked Vivekanandan to stop the vehicle after seeing his accomplice Dinesh in an isolated spot on Arcot Main Road. The duo threatened Vivekanandan and robbed his two-wheeler and other valuables before they fled the spot.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered. Police analysed the CCTV footage on the route and found that it was the duo, history-sheeters in the area, who were involved in the crime. On a tip-off, the duo was arrested from their hideout in Arcot town. Later, they were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. Further probe is under way.
