Calling on students to shun mobile phones and reach out to books for intellectual growth, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday underlined the role of teachers in ensuring this. Speaking at the Teachersâ Day celebrations and award ceremony here, he said the ultimate aim of education was not just literacy, but to make students socially conscious and rational beings. âThe Constitution gave us all the right to education and our government is undertaking programmes to increase Constitutional literacy,â he said.
Only an understanding of Constitutional values will ensure that even those who are highly educated do not end up continuing to stay within the confines of the caste system and believing in superstitions, which militates against the very idea of education, he argued.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said that his government had prioritised education and set aside âč65,000 crore for the sector.
