An 86-year-old farmer battling chronic illness ended his life by shooting himself at his house at Mandankali, Miyapadav, Kasaragod, Kerala, on Thiruvonam day on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Subbanna Bhatt, who lived with his wife Rajamma, a retired nurse.
The police said the couple, who had no children, were struggling with age-related ailments and mental stress due to prolonged illness.
The body was shifted to Kannur Government Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The police said the revolver used was reportedly unlicensed.
A case has been registered based on a neighbour’s statement.
