Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday flagged off 52 trucks filled with flood relief materials for Punjab. This was in addition to ₹5 crore assistance to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The relief material includes food grains, drinking water, clothes, tarpaulin, medicines, sanitary kits, milk powder and daily essential items.

“The relief materials are not just goods but the love and support of the people of Delhi, which is being delivered to the brothers and sisters of Punjab,” Ms. Gupta said.

The CM said she had spoken to her Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann and assured that Delhi will help Punjab in all possible ways.

“Delhi and Punjab are not only neighbouring States but are also deeply connected emotionally and culturally,” she said.

Heavy monsoon rains and water released from upstream dams have caused severe flooding across Punjab.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said he had learnt that Punjab has sufficient ration but lacks the means to prepare and store it.

“We are also sending utensils, mosquito nets, shoes and slippers. This is our effort to support the people of the State who are not only the food providers of the country but also the border guards,” Mr. Sachdeva said.
