The Dakshina Kannada police have arrested an accused from Vitla, who had failed to appear before the jurisdictional court for 19 years, at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.

In a statement, the police said Devaraj was mentioned as absconding accused in the chargesheet. The Vitla police registered the case for offences punishable under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of Indian Penal Code. As he had failed to appear before the court for 19 years, it had termed the case as long pending and issued a non-bailable warrant.

The police got information that Devaraj was working as a vehicle parking attendant at a parking lot in Tirupati. A team of Dakshina Kannada police went to Tirupati and secured him on September 5. He was produced before the court in Bantwal on September 6, and the court remanded Devaraj in judicial custody.
