Unidentified miscreants erased the names of cities written in Hindi and displayed on the national highways with black paint and escaped on Sunday. Police said that following a complaint from the national highways authority, an investigation had been launched. It is said that the authorities had recently installed boards of cities written in Tamil, English and Hindi and displayed them on the NH. At least two or three boards between Sivaganga and Thirupathur on the Manamadurai to Thanjavur NH were erased.

College student detained; expensive drug seized

Cumbum South Police have detained a 19-year-old boy studying second year UG in a college in Theni district under charges of possessing highly expensive drug. Police said that following a specific input, they intercepted the accused at a police check post. Physical search showed the suspect had a little over two grams of methamphetamine, which is locally known as “meth”. A senior officer said that based on the confession, they had sent the drug for test and based on the inference of the laboratory report, further action would be taken.
