The Delhi Assembly on Tuesday issued notices to former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and former Speaker Ram Niwas Goel seeking their comments on the authenticity of ‘phasi ghar’ (execution room). The AAP leaders have been asked to submit their comments by September 19.
The structure, a mock British-era execution chamber built at a cost of ₹1 crore, was inaugurated on August 22, 2022, in the presence of Mr. Kejriwal as chief guest, Mr. Sisodia and then Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla, while Mr. Goel presided over the event, a communication issued by the Assembly Secretariat said.
The matter was discussed in the Monsoon Session of the Delhi Assembly in August.
Displaying a 1912 map of the Assembly complex, Speaker Vijender Gupta on August 7 said no evidence indicates the space was used for execution and stated that it was actually a “tiffin room”.
He alleged that crores of rupees were spent on the “fake phansi ghar and its advertisement”, referring the matter to a nine-member Committee of Privilege for examination and report.
The committee, headed by BJP MLA Pradyumn Singh Rajput, has two AAP legislators, Surendra Kumar and Ram Singh Netaji.
