Karnataka’s bioenergy sector is set to get a boost with Hamburg Invest, a financial institution of Germany, on Tuesday signing a Letter of Intent with the Karnataka State Bioenergy Development Board (KSBDB) to facilitate investment of ₹1,000 crore in bioenergy-related projects.

Elaborating on this partnership, KSBDB chairman S.E. Sudheendra said the institutional partnership will forge an alliance between the government and private institutions in Germany and Karnataka, and will help in negating the ill-effects of climate change.

With the new bioenergy policy in the State being shaped, he was confident that this partnership will help in getting new investments and in enhancing the lifestyle of villagers and farmers.

Germany has many patented technologies on bioenergy and several time-tested models are available for waste-to-energy concepts, he observed.

He pointed out that the signing of the institutional partnership followed his recent visit to Germany.

He thanked Pramod Kumar, MP, Germany, the German Federal Diet for visiting Bengaluru upon his request to sign the Letter of Intent.

Mr. Pramod Kumar said the institutional partnership between Hamburg Invest, Germany and KSBDB will help in the growth of the green energy sector in the State.

He was of the opinion that a proposal to have free trade agreement between India and European Union is on the cards and if that happens, then the bioenergy projects between the two nations would get a boost.
