A total of 362 individuals were booked by the Cyberabad Police for driving under the influence of alcohol during the weekend. Of the total cases registered, 260 were riders, 24 were three-wheeler drivers, 73 were operating four-wheelers, and five were behind the wheels of heavy vehicles.

A majority, 316 individuals, recorded Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 30 were found with levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 16 registered dangerously high levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 500 mg/100 ml.

Miyapur booked the highest number of cases, with 64 offenders, followed by Shamshabad with 42 cases, and both Chevella and Shadnagar police stations reported 32 cases each. On the other end, Gachibowli recorded the fewest violations with just five cases, while Raidurgam and Narsingi followed closely with seven and nine cases respectively. All those caught will be produced before the court, said the police.

The police warned that driving in an inebriated state is a grave offence. They added that if an intoxicated driver is involved in a fatal accident, then the person will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, pertaining to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. This section carries a punishment of up to ten years’ imprisonment, along with a fine that is determined by the court.

The traffic police have appealed to all motorists to act responsibly and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, urging citizens to help maintain public safety on the roads.
