A 17-year-old boy inflicted bleeding injuries on a construction labourer, J. Shenbagapandi, 42, of Angaimangalam under Silaiman police station limits on Friday.
The police said that a week back the victim had scolded the boy for using in filthy language in their residential area.
This led to a wordy quarrel between them and the boy abused the man. However, local people pacified them. Angered over this issue, the boy waylaid the man, while he was riding a bike on Friday and picked a quarrel with him.
He later suddenly attacked him with a knife inflicting bleeding injury on his left wrist.
As the man raised an alarm, local people rushed to his rescue. The accused warned him of dire consequences and fled the scene.
Silaiman police have registered a case of assault against the boy.
