₹4.42 crore fixed as Deepavali sales target for Co-optex outlets in Salem

Salem District Collector K. Elambahavath stated on Saturday, (October 3, 2026) that, ahead of the Deepavali festival, ₹4.42 crore has been set as the sales target for the Co-optex outlets.

The Collector inaugurated the Deepavali special discount sale at Salem Co-optex Thangam Pattu Maligai at First Agraharam.

Speaking to the reporters, the Collector said the State government has been providing special discounts of up to 30%, for the past 91 years, during festive seasons to uplift handloom weavers and provide continuous employment opportunities.

This year, for Deepavali, new designs of Kanchipuram silk sarees with original lace, Arani silk sarees, Salem silk sarees, Thirubhuvanam silk sarees, and new designs of soft silk sarees are up for sale. Likewise, all types of cotton sarees made in the Coimbatore, Madurai, Dindigul, Paramakudi, Tiruchi, and Salem areas, as well as Kalamkari cotton sarees in elegant colours, have been kept for sale, the Collector added.

Stating that Co-optex also has a wide range of bedspreads, dhotis, lungis, towels, and cotton shirts, the Collector said that Co-optex’s export products such as aprons, kurtas, mattresses, gloves, screen fabrics, bedspreads with pillow cases, and printed bedspreads have been very popular among customers. 

A sales target of ₹4.42 crore has been set for Co-optex outlets in the Salem district for Deepavali, of which ₹4.08 crore is allotted to the Salem co-optex Thangam Pattu Maligai outlet, and ₹34 lakh for the Attur Co-optex outlet. this year as well, the Tamil Nadu government is offering a special 30% discount on handloom varieties until November 30. During this period, the sales centres will be open on all holidays for the benefit of the customers, the Collector added.
