Educational loans to the tune of ₹6.72 crore were distributed to 155 students at a special education loan mela held here on Tuesday.
Virudhunagar district Collector N.O. Sughaputra distributed the loans to the students in the presence of District Lead Bank Manager Pandiselvan.
Senior representatives from 200 branches of nationalised and private banks participated in the camp.
Students and parents visited the stalls put up by all banks where all their doubts on educational loans were clarified by the officials
Fresh educational loan applications were given by the students at the camp. These applications will be scrutinsed and efforts will be taken to disburse educational loans to all eligible students within 20 days, the statement said.
Banks in Virudhunagar district have distributed educational loans to the tune of ₹27.61 crore to 576 students till September as against the target of ₹38.11 crore for the current financial year.
The District Collector stressed that private banks should not reject educational loan applications from eligible students.
