Nagercoil Mayor R. Mahesh announced that a tender has been floated for the construction of a new bus terminal in Vadasery at a cost of ₹63 crore.

He made the announcement at the Nagercoil Corporation council meeting held here on Tuesday.

During the meeting, councillors raised various concerns, mainly focused on damaged roads across the city. They alleged that at most of the places road repair work had been carried out partially, without completing the full project as planned.

Councillors of wards including 1, 2, and 52 stated that these are the wards that were recently merged with Nagercoil Corporation; however, basic infrastructure works, including streetlights and other facilities, are still lacking in these areas.

Ward 46 councillor Veera Soor Perumal pointed out that in the NGO colony locality, a shop with an area of 300 sq ft has been charged tax for 900 sq ft. Despite repeated requests, no action has been taken so far.

Addressing the concerns, Mr. Mahesh has urged the officials to take immediate action on the issue and stressed that such issues in the corporation must be prevented with proper monitoring ensured by the concerned authorities.

He added that necessary actions are being taken to carry out road works in Nagerocil Corporation limits. Further measures are also underway to beautify public places in Nagercoil, including construction of pedestrian pathways across the city for the convenience of the residents.

“Pedestrain pathway works were completed in few places and 12 personnel have been assigned to monitor and prevent vehicles from parking on these pathways,” he said.

“Only a few contract companies are executing works in Nagercoil Corporation and if they fail to complete the work within stipulated time, actions will be taken against them,” he added.

At the meeting Mr. Mahesh, Nagercoil corporation commissioner Nishant Krishna and other council members congratulated M. Arul, who has been selected as the nominated member of Nagercoil corporation, as per the government order directing that persons with disabilities be nominated to all local bodies across Tamil Nadu.
