Dindigul police on Wednesday arrested a total of 11 persons, including a minor, in connection with the murder of Veerabadran, the prime accused in DMK functionary Murugan murder case. Veerabadran was hacked to death in broad daylight on the Dindigul-Natham highway, on Tuesday.
The special team arrested M. Moorthy, T. Balu, V. Kumaresan, J. Naveen Kumar, R. Rajasekar, R. Ramkumar, J. Little Prince Raj, R. Devaroopan Donald, J. Arockiya Jethli, G. Kathirvel and a juvenile in connection with the case within hours of the incident.
In 2025, Murugan, a licensed contractor of Dindigul Corporation, was abducted and murdered by an armed gang in a moving vehicle between Dindigul and Madurai districts. Murugan had been reportedly involved in a temple administration in Mettupatti. There were some differences over the finances.
The police arrested the armed gang. A total of eight persons, including Veerabadran, were arrested in connection with the murder case. Recently, Veerabadran and others were out on bail.
Under these circumstances, Veerabadran, a native of Mettupatti, was travelling on a two-wheeler with his wife near Nochi Odaipatti along Dindigul-Natham highway stretch. An armed gang rammed the vehicle from behind and attacked Veerabadran using lethal weapons.
Veerabadran sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. Veerabadran’s wife who sustained serious injuries after falling from the two-wheeler was taken to Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital where she is currently under treatment.
On receiving information, the Sanarpatti police sent Veerabadran’s body for post-mortem examination. On the orders of Dindigul Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar, a special team was formed. The police seized an SUV said to have been used by the gang. The gang had abandoned the vehicle while fleeing. Lethal weapons were found inside the vehicle.
The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the case to determine whether the incident was an act of retaliation for the murder of the DMK functionary or whether there was another motive behind the murder.
