As many as 14 women devotees belonging to Cuddalore district sustained injuries when the van in which they were travelling overturned at Poiyur near Ariyalur on Saturday.
The devotees from Sethiyathoppu, Kudalayuthur and a few other nearby villages had gone to Samayapuram in a van to offer worship at Sri Mariamman Temple. After completing the worship, they were returning , when one of the tyres burst suddenly as the vehicle was nearing Poiyur. As a result, the driver lost control of the van and it overturned. In the accident, 14 out of the 16 women suffered injuries.
On information, the police and Fire and Rescue services personnel went to the spot and transported the injured to the Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. The Keelappazhuvur police have filed a case and are investigating.
