A 17-year-old nursing college student was killed after being hit by a train at Kadambathur, near Tiruvallur on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as T. Haritha, 17, a resident of Tiruvallur district. She was a first-year pharmacy course student at a private college in Nemilichery near Avadi.
Police sources said that Haritha had come to the Kadambathur railway station to catch the train to college. She attempted to cross the railway track while speaking on her mobile phone and was struck by the side rod of the train, and sustained severe injuries.
She succumbed to injuries at the Tiruvallur Government Hospital.
