Supreme Court Judge M.M. Sundresh conferred degrees on the students of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) at the 17th convocation ceremony held here on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, Justice Sundresh said failure was a wonderful thing. While it is only natural for all of us to fall down, true character lies in getting back up, he said. He urged students to be different, innovative, and imaginative, and to treat everyone with dignity.
Gokul V. Subramaniam, president of Intel India, said, “We are in the middle of a huge paradigm shift; every day, new technology is evolving. You are inheriting a world defined by the rapid evolution of deep tech and artificial intelligence. But with that immense computing power comes a profound responsibility that we owe to our planet and humanity. Technology cannot just be smart; it must be sustainable. Innovation cannot just be fast; it must be inclusive.”
Anand Jacob Verghese, chancellor of HITS, said convocation was one of the most significant occasions in the life of a student. “It is not only a celebration of academic achievement, but also a moment of transition from structured learning to independent responsibility, from acquiring knowledge to applying it, and from personal ambition to purposeful contribution,” he added.
Vikas Misra, vice-chancellor of HITS; Akhilesh Mishra, former ambassador to Ireland and Maldives; and Oscar Concessao, Oscar, Ponni, Rahul Architects, Chennai, spoke at the event.
A total of 2,732 students were presented with degrees at the convocation.
