Around 20,000 people, including students from Adikavi Nannaya University and its affiliated colleges and civil society representatives, sang the national song Vande Mataram on Saturday on the university campus near Rajamahendravaram. The event marked the 150th anniversary of the song, celebrating its cultural, historical and emotional significance.
Prior to the singing, Minister for Tourism and Culture Kandula Durgesh, Vice-Chancellor S. Prasanna Sree and Rajamahendravaram Urban Development Authority Chairman B. Venkata Ramana Chowdary led a rally carrying a massive 25,000-square-foot national flag across the campus.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Durgesh said that Vande Mataram, penned by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, would continue to inspire future generations. He also recalled the contribution of Pingali Venkaiah to the freedom struggle, particularly his role in designing the national flag.
