2,639 conservancy workers of urban local bodies in Virudhunagar district to benefit under breakfast scheme

Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran served breakfast to conservancy workers of Aruppukottai municipality here on Monday after formally inaugurating the breakfast scheme expanded to all urban local bodies in the State.

Virudhunagar Collector N.O. Sukhaputra was present.

The new scheme has been introduced as the workers found it difficult to cook their breakfast and take it to their work place to eat as they assemble for work early in the morning, the Minister said.

Hence, taking this into account, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin introduced the free breakfast scheme in Chennai Corporation in November and it has now been expanded to all urban local bodies.

A total of 2,639 workers in urban local bodies in Virudhunagar district would benefit under the scheme.

This includes 508 workers of Sivakasi Corporation, 1,177 workers of the five municipalities of Rajapalayam, Virudhunagar, Srivilliputtur, Aruppukottai and Sattur. Besides, 446 workers of nine Town Panchayats, including Chettiyarpatti, Kariyapatti, Mallankinaru, Mamsapuram, S. Kodikulam, Seithur, Sundapandiyam, W. Pudupatti, Watrap, would also get the benefits of breakfast scheme.

They would be served idli, vada, sambar on Mondays and Fridays, rava kichadi and chutney on Tuesdays, pongal and sambar on Wednesdays, rava uppuma and chutney on Thursdays, rava pongal and sambar on Saturdays and vermicilli kichadi, sambar on Sundays.

Tirunelveli Regional Director of Municipal Administration, Vijayalakshmi, Aruppukottai Municipal Chairperson, S. Sundaralakshmi, Aruppukottai Municipal Commissioner, Rajamanickam, were present.
