Thirty-four CPI-Maoist cadres, including 26 carrying a cumulative bounty of ₹84 lakh, laid down their arms in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur on Tuesday (December 16, 2025), said the police.
“As a result of the State Government’s comprehensive anti-Naxal policy and continuous efforts based on peace, dialogue, and development, 34 Maoist cadres have today decided to abandon the path of violence and return to the mainstream of society. The group includes 7 women and 27 men…” said Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Yadav.
Those who surrendered included members of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, the Telangana State Committee and the Andhra Odisha Border Division of the banned outfit. Twenty-six of them carried rewards ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹8 lakh.
Mr. Yadav said that since January 1, 2024, 824 Maoists have joined the mainstream, 1079 have been arrested, and 220 have been killed in various encounters in Bijapur district.
Under the government’s rehabilitation process, each cadre will be provided with immediate financial assistance of ₹50,000 as an incentive, a police press release stated.
“The effective implementation of the comprehensive Naxalite elimination policy adopted by the State Government has established a strong foundation for lasting peace in the South Bastar region. As a result of the continuous, collective, and coordinated efforts of the police, various security forces, local administration, social organizations, and aware citizens of the region, remarkable success has been achieved in gradually transforming the culture of violence and fear into a culture of dialogue, trust, and development,” the press statement further noted.
