51st Tamil Isai Sangam festival begins in Madurai

“LKG ASAI” , a drama by T.V. Varadharajen’s United Visuals, woven with repartee and wordplay was staged on the inaugural day of the 51st Tamil Isai Sangam festival at the Rajah Muthiah Mandram on Friday.

TVV conveyed the message to the prospective parents and parents in general that they should not impose parental pressure on their children. The story, by Vedam Puthithu Kannan, revolves around two families, one dreaming about their child’s future as an allrounder and the other family not blessed with a child and wishes to bring up a responsible citizen.

The role play by Varadarajen as Vellamandi mani, Lakshmi as Gomathi (speaking in Tirunelveli slang), Hema as Yashoda, Girish as doctor, Elango as sports trainer, Dasdageer as Appa, Sridhar as Muthu, Jeyaprakash as Abasagunam Annasamy and Master Yakshit as Meenakshisundaram was very impressive and effective, which made the drama lively.

 The strength of the play was the humour that flows through the script updation with recent airline fiasco, AI etc and the comic orientation of all actors.

Earlier, marking the inaugural function, nagaswaram was performed by E. N. P. Venkatesan. Students and teachers of the Tamil Isai Sangam performed “Thevara Innisai”.

Sangam Trustee Rm. Somasundaram welcomed. Justice Chockalingam conferred the ‘Muthamizh Peraringnar’ title and the ‘Porkizhi award to T V Varadarajan. Secretary Periyannan read the citation. Justice Chockalingam hailed the services of the Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar’s family to Tamil and the formation of Tamil Isai Sangam. Trustee P. Ramasamy proposed a vote of thanks.
