Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav has said that 784 new Post Graduate doctors (senior residents) will be joining teaching and secondary hospitals in the State from January 1.
Those who had joined the PG courses in 2022-23 under the convener quota would be given postings in the secondary hospitals, including Community Health Centres, area and district hospitals, and teaching hospitals, the Minister said in a release on Saturday.
“A list is being prepared to categorise PG doctors as per their specialities so that their services can be utilised properly,” the Minister said, adding that the option for registration was open till December 29, and those who had received their postings should report for duty by January 5.
These doctors, spread across 23 specialities, have to work compulsorily in teaching hospitals for six months and in hospitals falling under the Directorate of Secondary Health for another six months. They will be paid ₹80,500, as per G.O. No 723 issued in December 2024.
“There are 110 PG doctors in General Medicine, 91 in General Surgery, 87 in Gynecology, 81 in Anesthesiology, 53 in Orthopedics, and 58 in Pediatrics. The others are from Radiology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, and other specialties and PG non-clinical courses,” the release said.
Out of 784 PG doctors, 393 will work in Community Health Centres, area and district hospitals, while the remaining in 17 teaching hospitals in the State.
Director of Secondary Health Chakradhar Babu said medical services for patients would improve further in these hospitals with the arrival of the new batch of senior residents.
