A 34-year-old woman lawyer was allegedly murdered by her brother during a dispute over ancestral property at Kethireddypally village in Moinabad on Wednesday morning.
Moinabad Inspector Pavan Kumar Reddy said that the victim, Swapna, 34, was a practising advocate at the Chevella court. “On Wednesday, she had gone to the family’s agricultural land for discussions related to the division of a 10-acre ancestral property that had been a source of conflict within the family for several years,” said the officer.
According to investigators, Swapna and her brother Raju were at odds after their mother divided the land, allotting a larger share to the son and a smaller portion to the daughter. Police said Raju suspected that his sister intended to sell her share, which further escalated tensions.
An argument between the two turned violent, with Raju, along with a group, attacking Swapna with a knife and sticks. “She collapsed at the spot and was shifted by locals to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared her dead,” added the officer.
The Moinabad police booked a case and started a probe.
