World cancer Day observed – The Hindu

World Cancer Day was observed at Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital (TKGMCH) on Wednesday.

Dean G. Sivakumar presided over the event, and Resident Medical officer Silas Jeyamani was present. At the event, patients who had undergone cancer treatment at the TKGMCH and recovered, shared their experiences along with their relatives.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sivakumar highlighted that cancer can be cured if detected at an early stage. He noted that women are most commonly affected by cancer, particularly breast cancer, cervical cancer. He stressed that women must undergo regular medical check-ups, as early detection can lead to recovery from the cancer.

Lalitha Subramanian, professor and head, Department of Radiation Oncology, and other doctors, medical staff and students were present.
