Ramanathapuram district police detained over 60 differently people here on Wednesday for staging a road blockade for the second consecutive day in front of the District Collectorate, demanding a hike in monthly welfare pensions.
The protest, organised by the Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Their Caregivers (TARATDAC), was part of a State-wide push for pension parity with neighboring states.
The protesters urged the Tamil Nadu government to increase monthly financial assistance for general disability from ā¹2,000 to ā¹6,000, from ā¹2,000 to ā¹10,000 for severe disabilities and ā¹15,000 for bedridden and high support needed differently abled people.
The demonstration was led by the associationās District President Rajesh.
As the protesters moved to block the main road, disrupting traffic to press their demands, police intervened and detained the protesters.
