Arrangements have been made at every PHC to provide initial treatment for heatstroke victims, says Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav.

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav on Saturday held a review meeting with officials to discuss the precautionary measures to be taken in view of the rising day temperatures in the State.
During the meeting, the Minister said arrangements have been made at every Primary Health Centre (PHC) to provide initial treatment for heatstroke victims. Depending on the severity of the case, patients will be transferred to larger hospitals through the 108 ambulance service.
The Minister said 17,166,381 ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) sachets have been stocked in the hospitals across the State. Of this, 5,074,423 are stocked in PHCs, while the Urban PHCs have 1,677,787 ORS sachets. IV fluids have also been stocked as required, he said.
With coordination from different departments, awareness should be created among the public about the symptoms of heatstroke, the Minister said. Training will be provided to doctors and paramedical staff on how to treat the patients.
According to an official release, heatstroke cases have increased in the past three years. In 2023, as many as 833 cases were reported, which increased to 4,444 in 2024 and 5,154 in 2025. The Minister attributed the increase in numbers to improved reporting. Eluru district reported the highest heatstroke cases in 2025.
Advanced Warning Advisory for Resilient Ecosystem (AWARE), a digital platform, will be used to know the temperature severity four to five days in advance. Based on the data, the officials will identify the vulnerable areas and pass on the information to the respective District Collectors, who will take appropriate action.
The authorities will use the past data. The areas that have recorded high temperatures in the past 10 years will be identified, and action will be taken as per the Summer Action Plan-2026, the release said.
Health and Family Welfare Commissioner G. Veerpandian, Director of Secondary Health K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu and Institute of Preventive Medicine Director Neelakantha Reddy and others were present in the meeting.
