Stating that he was receiving support from across the country to revive industry in West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday (September 22, 2026) expressed hope that big players would invest in the State for the love of the country.
“There will be investment in Bengal. All the big players will invest in the State for the love of the country, and to revive the State. The manner in which the communists and Mamata (former CM Mamata Banerjee) destroyed West Bengal, the entire country is willing to revive the State. I have received this commitment from everywhere,” Mr. Adhikari told media persons in Cooch Behar.
The Chief Minister also recalled his meeting with the chairman of Reliance Industries Limited Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai on Monday (September 21, 2026), adding that he had visited an event held by Mr. Mukesh Ambani’s son Anant Ambani. Mr. Adhikari posted on social media that he had “exchanged thoughts on the immense possibilities for industrial growth and employment generation in West Bengal” with Mr. Mukesh Ambani.
“Our State is ready to welcome visionary investments that empower our youth and drive sustainable economic resurgence,” he said. He also thanked Mr. Mukesh Ambani, his wife Nita Ambani, and the entire Ambani family for their hospitality, describing the welcome as one of “extraordinary warmth and gracious hospitality”.
On September 24, Adani Group chairperson Mr. Gautam Adani will be visiting Kolkata to lay the foundation stone of a 2,000-bed hospital, Mr. Adhikari said.
Mr. Adani is likely to kick off three major projects in West Bengal on September 24, including the renovation of Writers’ Buildings and the redevelopment of the Kumartuli ghat in north Kolkata.
One of the biggest challenges before the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is enabling investments for reviving industry in the State. Apart from Mr. Adhikari, State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya is also meeting captains of industry.
In the four months since they were sworn-in, the Chief Minister and the State BJP president have been trying hard to shed the State’s ‘anti-industry’ image, and urging industry to promise investments in West Bengal.
Mr. Bhattacharya, a Rajya Sabha MP, on September 20 met the Aditya Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, and urged the group to expand its business presence and industrial footprint in the State. The Centre of Indian Trade Unions, the labour arm of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), had misbehaved with the late Aditya Birla, and he did not return to invest in the State, the Bengal BJP president said. He had written to Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, urging him to invest in the State, Mr. Bhattacharya said.
Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla will also meet Mr. Adhikari in the coming days, Mr. Bhattacharya said. “Positive discussions also took place between us regarding various possibilities for industrial development and investment in the future, with the aim of establishing West Bengal as one of the country’s key centres for industry and employment,” the BJP leader said.
