Over 100 DMK cadres were detained by police in Dindigul and Theni districts on Monday for staging protests demanding dismissal of State Minister for Human Resources Management D. Sarathkumar over allegations of using narcotic substances.

Recently, a video clip had gone viral on the social media showing the Minister crushing a white substance on his mobile phone using a debit card while watching an IPL match in Chennai. The Minister had clarified that he had crushed a tablet for his daughter who was not keeping well on that day. However, the protesters claimed that the Minister was using narcotic substances in a public place.

Condemning the incident, the DMK Student Wing staged a protest in front of the Dindigul Head Post Office in Dindigul and the Palanichettipatti Town Panchayat office in Theni respectively, though they had been denied permission. They were detained by the police.
