A grand welcome on cards for working president Nitin Nabin on his two-day visit to Puducherry

Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party workers in the Union Territory are gearing up to accord a warm welcome to national working president Nitin Nabin when he reaches Puducherry on Saturday for a two-day party programme, probably the first engagement outside the national capital after assuming office early this week. 

Mr. Nabin, a five-time legislator from Bihar, assumed charge at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on December 15 after the party’s parliamentary board notified his appointment as working president a day before. 

BJP’s Puducherry office on Friday announced the two-day visit of the working president to the Union Territory, starting Saturday, for various engagements, including meetings with party’s Booth Level Agents, members of the core committees, entrepreneurs and important personalities. He will call on BJP’s alliance party leaders, including Chief Minister and AINRC founder N. Rangasamy.

A meeting with Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan has been scheduled on Sunday. A few leaders, including two-time former AIADMK MLA Bhaskar, will be inducted into the BJP in the presence of Mr. Nabin. The working president will visit few Assembly constituencies during his stay, a party functionary said.

“We are very happy that our new president has selected Puducherry for the first major party engagement after assuming office. The party’s local leadership has decided to make the visit a grand event. We are organising a big reception at the Puducherry’s border village on Saturday morning to welcome him. His visit to the Union Territory shows the importance our Central leadership attaches to Puducherry in the coming Assembly elections,” he said.

Mr. Nabin will be accompanied by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who is the Assembly election in-charge for the Union Territory along with another Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.

Home Minister in Delhi

Ahead of the visit of Mr. Nabin to Puducherry, the party Central leadership on Thursday evening summoned Home Minister A. Namassivayam and local unit president V. P. Ramalingam to New Delhi. Both the leaders left to the national capital on Thursday night. They are expected to meet senior leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.
