Social Justice Minister inspects development works in Kaani tribal settlement

Minister for Social Justice Vanni Arasu on Saturday inspected the various development works and basic facilities being provided for the Kaani tribal people at Karaiyar Chinna Mayilar and the government residential school located in Papanasam Upper Dam area.

He inspected the iron footbridge being constructed across the river to fulfil the long pending demand of the Kaani tribal settlement in Karaiyar Chinna Mayilar . He also met the tribal people at the Chinna Mayilar community welfare centre and enquired about their various demands and basic needs. The long standing demand of the tribal people which was the construction of a 2.5 km road from Chinna Mayilar land settlement to the forest guard check post near Sorimuthu Aiyyanar temple was also reviewed during the inspection.

Mr. Vanni Arasu then visited the exhibition set up by the Kaani tribal people, featuring forest produce, food items, tubers, herbal plants and other products. He said that appropriate measures would be taken to create opportunities for the tribal people to effectively market their produce.

Subsequently, he inspected the government residential school in Upper Dam area of Papanasam and interacted with the students. He said that the request to upgrade the school as a higher secondary school will be considered and brought to the attention of the government. He added that steps will be taken to fill the vacant posts including physical education teacher post in the school.

Tirunelveli District Collector Anand Mohan, Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve Deputy Director A. Anbu and other officials were present.
