The Kozhikode Regional Transport Office (RTO) has suspended the licences of two bus drivers and a conductor for six months following an alleged public brawl over bus timings near Thondayad. The alleged incident happened on September 11, 2026.
According to Motor Vehicle department (MVD) sources, an argument broke out between bus staff over the scheduled timings. It later escalated into a physical confrontation in the middle of the road, causing significant traffic disruption.
The incident reportedly left passengers and members of the public upset for hours. Visuals of the confrontation were widely circulated on social media, triggering strong public criticism.
The MVD said action was taken against the erring bus staff after they violated traffic regulations and created a law-and-order issue.
In addition to the suspension of licences, the RTO directed the three individuals to attend the mandatory road safety and driver awareness classes at a designated driver training centre.
Officials said such acts of misconduct by bus staff on public roads would not be tolerated and said that monitoring would be strengthened.
