SIPCOT industrial park set to boost industrial climate of Tiruchi

 Brisk development activity at Small Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) industrial park at Manapparai has raised hopes of boosting the industrial climate of Tiruchi and neighbouring districts.

Aimed at providing land at an affordable long-term lease basis, the State government issued a GO about 14-years ago for setting up an industrial park by acquiring 1,097 acres of land at Kannudaiyanpatti, K. Periyapatti, and Chathirapatti near Manapparai on Tiruchi-Dindigul Highway. SIPCOT began issuing applications for allotment of land to entrepreneurs in 2021. Of 1,097 acres, 396 acres have been developed. Of the total available land, it earmarked 131.92 acres to Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) and the remaining land is being allocated to entrepreneurs.

According to sources, so far land has been allotted to 35 industrial units on a 99-year lease. Though the response from the industries, seeking allotment of sites, was termed as sluggish initially, the industrial park has become busy with the establishment of industries. It has so far allotted about 300 acres of land. It has reserved about 100 acres of land to Jabil Inc, a multinational corporation based in the United States that supplies electronic components to Apply, Cisco, HP, Dell and so on.

Out of 35 allottees, nine companies have started productions and 15 companies are building their plants.

Kirby Building Systems and Structures India, a subsidiary of the multinational company Alghanim Industries, was the latest company to have been allotted 33.2 acres of land. It has started building its manufacturing facility. The company is one of the companies that manufacture pre-engineered steel buildings (PEB), and structural steel solutions. The proposed facility in Manapparai will have a built-up area of 8 lakh square feet, with an annual manufacturing capacity of 1,00,000 tonnes. It is to start commercial operations by mid-2027. It is expected to make an investment of Rs.239 crore for the facility.

PepsiCo India Holdings Pvt Ltd, a leading food and beverage company, which has been allotted 27.96 acres of land at the industrial park, will start its plant building works on Thursday. The company, which is producing and marketing a number of branded snack items and soft drinks, is building a plant for manufacturing potato chips.

Most companies, who were allotted lands at the park, are expected to launch commercial production in the mid of 2027. With the park transitioning towards the targeted operations within 2027, it is expected that there may be an increase in housing, rental accommodation needs, commercial space, logistics and ancillary services.

“There has already been an enhanced activity at the park with the production started by nine companies. With the entry of multinational companies, the park will engineer positive change in the industrial climate of Tiruchi and its neighbouring districts,” says a senior official.
