Public installation of Ganesha idols for Ganesh Chaturthi will take place at 492 places in Udupi district and 174 places in Mangaluru city.
Udupi Superintendent of Police (SP) Hariram Shankar said idols would be installed and immersed at 415 general, 74 sensitive and three ‘hyper-sensitive’ locations.
In Udupi district, immersion of 211 idols will be held on Monday, followed by 108 visarjans on Tuesday. A total of 114 visarjans will be held on Wednesday. There will be 13 visarjans on Thursday, 29 on Friday, four on Saturday, and five on Sunday. There will be one visarjan each day from September 22 to September 24, two on September 25, one on September 26, and two visarjans on September 29.
While asking for the cooperation of the public in the peaceful celebration of the festival and visarjan rituals, Udupi police asked organisers to hold the visarjan procession on the designated route and ensure no provocative slogans are raised during the procession. The organisers should abide by the instructions of police officers and not cause any disruption to traffic movement during the procession.
To ensure peace, the police have held 22 peace committee meetings with different community representatives. Proceedings to execute bonds for good conduct have been initiated against 611 persons, of whom 487 have executed bonds by appearing before the executive magistrate.
A total of 966 police officers and personnel will be deployed during the period across Udupi district. They include three Assistant SPs/Deputy SPs, seven Police Inspectors (PIs), 37 Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs), 83 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), 680 police constables (PCs), 20 units of District Armed Reserve (DAR) personnel, three units of KSRP personnel, and 163 home guards. As many as 12 public announcement systems and three drones will also be deployed, Mr. Shankar said.
Similar arrangements and security proceedings have been made to ensure the peaceful installation of 174 Ganesha idols and related visarjans in Mangaluru City, and for the installation and visarjans of idols in Dakshina Kannada.
One Additional SP, four Deputy SPs, seven PIs, 34 PSIs, 52 ASIs, 520 PCs, 150 home guards, and five units each of KSRP and DAR will be deployed across Dakshina Kannada, said Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police K. Arun in a press release.
