Centre allocates five lakh houses to Andhra and Telangana under PMAY-G, says Pemmasani

The Centre has allocated five lakh houses to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana under the ‘Housing for all’ goal, Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said.

In a statement here on Wednesday (September 16, 2026), Mr. Pemmasani said Andhra Pradesh had received an additional 2.25 lakh houses, taking the total allocation to three lakh since the coalition government assumed office. Telangana, which had already been allocated 79,000 houses, received another 1.21 lakh, taking its total to two lakh.

He said only 42,000 houses, or 23%, of the 1.78 lakh allocated to Andhra Pradesh during 2019-24 had been completed. Steps were being taken to complete the remaining houses.

The government aimed to identify beneficiaries who owned land in a transparent manner and complete the houses within the next two to three years, he said. The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) Plus app, geo-tagging and self-surveys were being used to ensure transparency, with selection based on eligibility irrespective of region or political affiliation.

With assistance from State governments and schemes such as Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) and Swachh Bharat, support could reach ₹1.70 lakh to ₹1.80 lakh per house, he said. The monthly income ceiling was raised to ₹15,000, and two-wheelers and refrigerators were removed from the disqualification criteria.
