Over 1 lakh household connections in Coimbatore city are now receiving continuous supply under the 24-hour drinking water project. Approved at a cost of ₹646.71 crore, the project covers the 60 wards that existed before 2011.
Under the project, 33 elevated water tanks are planned, 30 have been completed, and work on the remaining three tanks is in progress. Of the 74 km of feeder mains planned, 66.42 km has been completed, and 1,798.45 km of distribution pipelines are planned, with 1,747.63 km laid.
A total of 1.5 lakh household connections are planned under the project. So far, 1,19,142 connections have been provided, with 1,00,036 receiving 24/7 water supply, and the remaining connections under trial operation as of January 24, 2026.
The project is being implemented by SUEZ Pvt Ltd.
Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran has instructed the firm to complete the remaining work by February 2026.
