Conservancy workers in Erode boycott work alleging ill-treatment

More than 60 conservancy workers attached to three wards under the Erode Corporation’s second zone on Monday (September 21, 2026) boycotted work for nearly two hours, alleging that a health inspector was treating them in an inhumane manner, like bonded labourers.

The workers attached to Wards 20, 21, and 29 alleged that the health inspector’s ill-treatment of them had caused them severe mental stress.

They gathered at Sampath Nagar after boycotting work and said they could not continue working under the official. Senior Corporation and health officials, along with personnel from the Erode North police station, held talks with the workers.

The officials assured them that their grievances and complaints would be brought to the attention of senior Corporation authorities and appropriate action would be taken. Following the assurance, the workers withdrew their protest and resumed duty.
