Two women were killed in a lightning strike at Nagoor village in Kamalapur taluk of Kalaburagi district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Lakshmi, 45, wife of farmer Basayya Guttedar, and Shahzada Bi, 60, an agricultural labourer.
According to the police, the women were among a group of around seven agricultural workers engaged in weeding a tur crop in Guttedar’s field. They had stopped work and gathered under a tree for lunch when rain began suddenly.
The women took shelter under the tree as the rain intensified. A lightning strike, accompanied by thunder, hit the spot, killing Lakshmi and Bi on the spot, while the other labourers escaped unhurt.
