Social Welfare Minister K. Jegadeshwari on Monday inaugurated the ‘Thaimaaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam’ at Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital.
Collector Sharanya Ari and Virudhunagar MLA P. Selvam were present. The Minister and the MLA put gold rings to the new borns at the hospital.
The Minister said the scheme would be implemented through five block headquarters hospitals and 72 primary health centres. Babies born in the hospitals since June 22 were the beneficiaries, and each child would be given a gold ring weighing one gram.
A total of 2,676 infants were given the gold ring. Henceforth, the infants born in the hospitals would be given the gold ring when they get discharged along with their mothers from the hospital.
Hospital Dean Amutharani, Joint Director of Medical Services Kaliraj, District Health Officer Yasodhamani were among those who were present.
