A 25-year-old man was arrested on Sunday on charges of abusing and threatening a woman police head constable by brandishing a knife while the latter was discharging her official duty at Kallakudi in the district.
The police said head constable S. Silambu Selvi, serving in Kallakudi police station, was conducting vehicle checks along with two other police personnel on Sunday evening near Malvai diversion road in Kallakudi when the crime was committed.
Ms. Selvi stopped a motorcycle for inspection and enquiry when the vehicle rider M. Raj, 25, allegedly abused and threatened her by brandishing a knife that was kept in the tank cover of the vehicle. Raj, of Kovandakurichi, was arrested based on a complaint by Ms. Selvi.
