The Bengaluru police have arrested 11 persons, including a couple, in connection with an alleged attempt to kill a man over an old enmity in southwest Bengaluru’s Subramanyapura.

The accused have been identified as Manikanta, 27; his wife, Keerthana, 21; Prem V.; Manoj G.; Krishnagupta; Akash, alias Mandya; Munna; Madhusudhan; Darshan S.; Sudeep M.N.; and Bharath M.G., all in their 20s.

The accused allegedly attempted to murder the complainant over an old enmity related to a cricket match played two months ago. They attacked two persons in separate incidents using daggers, long weapons, and iron rods.

The first incident occurred on September 20 at a vacant site in Uttarahalli. The complainant and his friends were standing there when around six to seven persons arrived on motorcycles and attacked the complainant and his friend with daggers.

In another incident on the same day, the complainant was having food near Uttarahalli Main Road when more than five persons allegedly arrived on motorcycles and attacked him with iron rods. The accused reportedly also assaulted the complainant’s nephew, who intervened.

Two cases were registered at the Subramanyapura police station on September 21. Using technical evidence, the police questioned Keerthana about the whereabouts of the accused, but she provided wrong information, concealing the fact that the accused had visited her place, police sources said.

“We reviewed CCTV footage in the vicinity and found that the accused had visited her house. Subsequently, we questioned her again, which gave leads about the whereabouts of the accused,” an investigator in the case said.

According to the officer, the accused and the victim had played a cricket match about two months ago, during which they had fought over bats and wickets. To take revenge, the accused allegedly planned the attack.

All the accused were produced before a court and taken into police custody for further interrogation. Four accused, including the woman, have since been remanded in judicial custody, while interrogation of the remaining seven is under way, the police said.
