Direct Procurement Centres for paddy for Samba season began functioning from Thursday (October 1, 2026) at Anamalai and Kottur, the only areas where the crop is grown to a combined extent of over 408 hectares, in Coimbatore district.
Farmers anticipate harvest of about 2,550 tonnes of paddy by the end of October. The DPCs, District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar said, were opened by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) to keep middlemen at bay, in deference to the farmers’ requests, with working times of 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m..
The State government, which provides a special incentive, has fixed the procurement rates factoring in the Central government’s Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Fine variety paddy is procured for ₹2,750 a quintal (Central MSP of ₹2,461 a quintal plus State incentive of ₹289), and Common variety paddy is procured for ₹2,600 a quintal (Central MSP of ₹2,441 a quintal plus State incentive of ₹159).
The procurement, the Collector said, will be carried out as per the quality standards and moisture specifications prescribed by the Central government.
To eliminate long waiting time and bring in transparency, a fully electronic procurement (e-DPC) system has been introduced, the Collector said.
Farmers, after furnishing the requisite details, will be intimated through SMS on their registered mobile number about the scheduled time to deliver the paddy, and receive full payment directly to their bank accounts through ECS within 48 hours.
